The Fish River Hike -  2000

The Fish River Hike has become a tradition at St George's Diocesan School. A distance of about  85 km, several river crossings daily and trudging through thick sand alternated with boulder hopping while carrying 10kg on your back, makes this no small challenge for the average 13 year old!

What the children said:

  • It was full of challenges and the Fish River gave me a chance to get to know some people and what type of persons they are – Ndeshi

  • It was hard the whole way but the motivation got us through the Fish River Canyon - Stephan

A long day's hike behind us.

  •  It was really scary, but the best part of the day was the evenings – Lucille

  •  The hike made me achieve something important in my life – O’Brian

Crossing the river for the 22nd time

  • It was great fun when we started, but it got harder as we got tired – Josef

  •  It was a tough walk every day, but sleeping under the stars was beautiful – Naveuye

  •  Wow!  What a hike!  It was incredibly hard, but lots of fun – Leah

  • The way all the pupils bonded and the way we understood each other was special - Leo
